You got two pounds of Wasabi Powder for 15 bucks. What do you expect? Freeze dried Wasabi flakes organically sourced and ethically produced while telling them bedtime stories? Laughable at best.Yes there is filler, because it thickens the wasabi better than normal pastes. Normal pastes ask for 2-1 (Powder to water) ratios in order to make the paste, but this is almost 1-1. That means you save money yes, but the flavor will be more dull than the stuff that costs four times the price. Also if you really want to be pretentious you should be spending 100 dollars a pound with your pinkies up while you grate the root directly with a fancy grater. Real fresh Wasabi only keeps it's heat for 15-20 minutes before breaking down, but horseradish can go all night baby.If you were expecting better for four times less I've got some news for you. It costs money to produce and sell products and the prices reflect that.I got this product to add another depth of flavor to some of my fried foods. Wasabi, Horse Radish, and Mustards get their heat from Allyl isothiocyanate, which unlike Capsaicin is not oil based. Heat from Capsaicin can last tens of minutes or for some people cause a more severe reaction, whereas Allyl isothiocyanate can be cooled almost immediately by liquids or any compound containing oils such as milk, water, and if your at a sushi bar the rice and oily fish. This means my oily Japanese fried chicken gets a light kick on the outside that is relieved by the oily fats from the chicken within. It creates a flavor combo that packs a punch but wont knock you off the stool.
