Rice Protein
Only thing that doesn't cause side effects for myself or husband. I have MCAS and IBS and this is gentle on the stomach and no hives or allergy reactions!! It tastes like chalky protein powder like every single protein powder out there but it's very mild. If your expecting it not to taste like protein powder than you don't know enough and have tried enough other ones to be leaving a review about taste.Let me first start by saying: hallelujah! It took me a long time to find a meal replacement shake that doesn't have milk or cost an arm and a leg. This has been a good breakfast alternative for me as a busy college student. It keeps me full for a while and doesn't taste bad.However.....Be aware for those with sensitive stomachs that there is artificial sugar in this. I myself cringed when I first read the ingredients and saw this but I'm slowly getting used to it. Why would I subject myself to this? Well, honestly I can't go without having breakfast - I need something to fill me up so I don't a) go to classes in a funk and can't concentrate and b) so I don't overeat when I have my next meal. Trying to lose weight while in college had proved challenging and for me, this was a healthy alternative and modification that I know I can maintain (2 months so far and down 8 pounds! ?)So what's the best recipe for a rice protien shake you say? Not what's on the label that's for sure. ?I've tried this mix a few different ways: with water, lactose free milk, almond milk, and mixed in fruit smoothies. There's a grittiness that takes a bit to get used to (we're talking a few weeks for me, yuck) It does not mix well so you got to keep stirring it.....thus it doesn't go great with smoothies cause it just settles in the bottom of the cup. Milk alternatives like almond or cashew milk make it taste GROSS. ? And 1 scoop is waaaaay too much. At best it takes maybe half a scoop for the 8-12oz of fluid the tub calls for, if anything a little less than half. And while mixing it in water does ok, it's not nearly as good as mixing lactaid milk and vanilla/chocolate powder ??????? When mixed well, it actually reminds me of a real milkshake. Seriously!I found that only using half a scoop in lactaid milk, with ice, is great: especially when you keep stirring. That's the key: stir frequently. Plus you may find you have to experiment at first to find what works for you; if you do, start out with maybe a teaspoon of powder mix to 8oz of fluid and build up to half a scoop or a whole scoop.Plus if you put half a scoop in with 8oz milk and 16oz coffee in a blender bottle (mix really well before adding to coffee), add some ice and you've got an awesome iced coffee for breakfast on the go.Overall I like it and I'll order again but the reason for just 3 stars is the grittiness of the product that makes it hard to get past at first. If the company were to tweak the formula just a bit to make it a little less gritty I would totally give this 5 stars.I've always had an issue with whey protein, I've never liked the taste, could never digest it properly, and it never had the desired effects for me. I also recently found out that I cannot handle dairy products in general. This protein powder is dairy free and gluten free - which is a big plus in a house that has a plethora of food sensitivities. It's affordable, easy to prepare, and unlike whey products - it actually taste good.My mom makes an awesome protein smoothie for everyone every morning (bananas, blueberries, yogurt, and this protein powder). The simple fact that we ALL love it and reach for it right after our coffee says a lot. It is gritty but I find in the smoothie it doesn't bother me at all. Both my mom and I suffer from Hypoglycemia, so this protein boost in the morning really helps us get an awesome start. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to avoid whey products but still wanting that protein boost in a convenient form.I will say one of the most considerate things this company did was make sample packets. Who wants to spend money on something they may or may not like, we're not talking $5 or $6 here. Most places won't return products like this once they've been opened either. To have a sample pack (granted that wasn't cheap either but certainly affordable, around $3) was a lifesaver. We were able to test the product before committing and we all appreciated that very much. The sample and first jar was purchased at a local grocery store but I purchased another two jars when I saw the sale on Amazon. We bought the small version of 3 different well liked choc protein powders...husband: 6’4”, 230# ex athlete, adds 12 oz OJ, antioxidant juice, frozen fruits and a splash of milk; wife 5’3”, 125# non-athlete, adds antioxidant juice and 12 oz 1%milk. Compared with OWYN dark choc protein powder and Orgain choc protein powder. All are veggie based (rice or pea). Here is our combined review: Orgain - thick due to 2 big scoops powder and borderline you-have-to-have-no-tastebuds-to-drink-this taste (yucky). We actually threw it away.OWYN: thinner (2 small scoops), does not froth but has the best taste overall.. like slightly grainy choc milk. Most chocolate-y.Growing Naturals (this product): tastes slightly less chocolate, froths better, but caused things to move through our guts quickly, yes, for both of us. Great to drink if prone to constipation perhaps. (We don’t normally discuss this kind of thing, but we both wondered if we had something wrong with us during the months ((yikes, we were slow learners)) that we used this powder in our breakfast shakes daily.)So we plan to stick with OWYN for daily use.I read this review to my husband before submitting and he is in agreement.I've had better.I have been using this protein powder for nearly 10 years but as of recently it is difficult to find. It’s very clean with nearly zero sugar. I am allergic to many things and this is one of the only protein powders that I have no issues with. This tastes OK....it doesn't ruin a smoothie or make it too thick. But I wish it were sweeter. It says it has Stevia in it, but I can't really tell. Just a touch more sweetness would help my smoothies taste a tad better. But we've bought this a few times and I'm sure will continue to.4.5 stars.I used to use soya protein as my powder of choice, but after my body became sensitive to soya I had to find an alternative. I tried lots of different vegan friendly protein powders, and each and every one was vile. Losing hope, I stumbled across the Growing Naturals Original Rice Protein Powder, and was so happy that I found one I could half-enjoy. I then decided to try the Vanilla Blast, craving sweetness in my shakes, and was SO pleased. I now use one scoop of Vanilla Blast and one scoop of Original for my protein shakes.Vanilla Blast is extremely sweet (which I love) but if you don't have a sweet tooth this might not be for you. I personally recommend using the 1:1 Original and Vanilla Blast ratio, as I think two scoops of Vanilla Blast would be too sweet, even for me.Another huge plus is that Growing Naturals protein powders have BCCA, which I was having to buy separately with other powders.I've rated this 4.5 stars rather than 5 due to the grainy consistency. It's much better than others I've tried, but the texture takes some getting used to.Overall I'm so happy that I found Growing Naturals. My hunt for sufficient vegan protein is over! This is the 2nd batch I buy now and so far I haven't had or found any better. The taste is lovely and I mix it with bananas, blueberries, flaxseed oil and almond milk which I usually have for breakfast everyday. It tastes amazing. I've become obsessed with this on a daily basis now. I've tried other protein powders but this for me is my favouriteI love this brand of protein powder and only wish it was easier to find in the UK at good prices. I mix it in with my breakfast smoothie which prevents the chalky texture that some people mention. It blends really nicely with banana and almond milk and has made it really easy for me to get adequate protein despite various food allergies and being mostly vegan. It can also be used to make cookies and other sweet treats with a higher protein content.I had low expectations about this protein powder. Many taste chalking and you just choke them down, but this is the best tasting protein powder I've ever had. I used to buy Hemp protein but I'm a convert. It's 25 grams of protein per serving. I will reorder this product.Great taste, no chalky texture and impressed by the high protein content (24g per serving). I've mixed this in smoothies as well as had it alone blended with almond milk and a pinch of cinnamon. It was drinkable with water, but not overly tasty. No nasty ingredients either, all natural! Definitely recommend! If anyone could let me know what the exact serving size should be that would be great, it says 1 scoop.. is that level to the top of the plastic scoop, or is it to the line visible on the scoop? Thanks
