History of Styrian Pumpkins: The pumpkin is one of the world’s oldest cultivated plants, the origin of the common pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) has been scientifically dated from 10,700 to 9,200 B.C. The common pumpkin originated in the Southern areas of Mexico. The pumpkin came most likely to Europe first after the discovery of America. An important point to remember is that these early pumpkin seeds had a thick shell, similarly to the pumpkins that are still planted today in many parts of the world including United States where we have the Halloween pumpkin with the light colored, thick shelled seeds, that are hard to eat because of the shells. The Pumpkin family has many members, including the variety Cucurbita pepo var. styriaca, which produces the so called shell-less Styrian pumpkin seed. This variety of pumpkins with shell-less seeds arose about 150 years ago as a result of a natural mutation. The production of Styrian pumpkin seed oil was made considerably easier, since the seeds did not have to be laboriously hand shelled. In the mean time, the Styrian pumpkin seed has been specially bred, so that today we have the corpulent, dark green, shell-less pumpkin seeds that are perfect for use in the production, one of a kind Schlacher & Söhne Pumpkin Seed Oil P.G.I. This is the only vegan protein I've not hated that seems pretty natural. The texture is more course and gritty, and the product tastes like mild pumpkin seeds if consumed directly. It generally add a thicker, gritty nuttiness to smoothies and doesn't change the color too much. I love mixing it with flour to make microwave cakes since it similarly adds nuttiness without a undesirable aftertaste.I switched it up and tried Sprout Living Simple Pumpkin Seed Protein Powder and they seem like two completely different products. Sprouts powder was more typical of a messier protein powder and was an usually bright light green color. The flavor was rather mild, but I felt like I was forcing myself to eat it more. It's probably more tolerable in a smoothie than microwave cake like I made. In baking, it was similar to whey protein textures by adding a "fluffiness".The only comment is I wish it came with a scoop. I'm using 2 tablespoons for now and don't know if that's accurate.Love this protein powder. Great macros and calories, especially for a vegan powder. I mix into a paste with water, ceylon cinnamon, vanilla and stevia to put on Food For Life sprouted muffin or toast in the morning...oh so yummy!!! Vanilla and toffee stevia taste yummy with it also. Already ordered my second bag. It's costly than other brands but I do like that it is organic and I like to vary my protein powders.Really good protein. As a repeat customer I had been looking for a high quality and healthy addition to my diet and found it in this protein.Definitely the best pumpkin seed protein powder I’ve ever used. You can tell by the smell when you first open the bag that this is a fresh product. I like the fact that this powder is sourced from Austria. There is another organic brand that I stopped using because they now source from China. This brand looks and tastes clean, and it is now my favorite vegan protein powder.Great product , very good mild taste .My diet is primarily plant-based (although I'm not entirely vegetarian, I do believe in the ethics of reduced consumption of animal products), and on top of this I have celiac disease, lactose intolerance, and malabsorption as a result of these two conditions. Therefore, it is extremely important for me to supplement protein, so I'm always looking for a good plant-based source of protein when I can find it.This product knocks everything else I've tried out of the park! This is made with pure pumpkin seeds, nothing else, and besides being high in protein, pumpkin seeds are also good for the health of people with prostates, and high in magnesium, which is a mineral often found lacking in people who have survived an addiction. (Which I have as well - I know, I know, I'm a bit of a mess!)At first I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this because it's not chocolatey, not sweet, but oh boy - it has a nice clean nutty flavor that I really like! If I'm in the mood for sweet, I can blend this with a banana or some other fruit - but honestly, sometimes I just mix this straight-up with water in a blender bottle, and although some people might think it's weird, I really enjoy the simple flavor. It's interesting because I've found the less I eat processed foods filled with sodium and sugar, the more my palate really appreciates something simple like this.At 102 calories for 20 grams of protein, this fits easily into anyone's daily meal schedule. That's really great! By contrast, many protein bars contain 20 grams of protein, but have nearly 300 calories. This is just as nutritious, at 1/3 of the calorie count! That's outstanding! Now, as far as I know I'm only allergic to dairy and gluten, but another nice thing about pumpkin seeds is they're not a common allergen. Again, looking at other plant-based proteins such as soy, this particular product is able to be tolerated by vastly more people. Pea protein is another common plant-based protein source, but it has an odd aftertaste, unlike the delicious nutty flavor of pumpkin seeds. Finally, I want to support this company just for how up-front they are. I like that they post the full ingredients list on the description page. Many sellers leave you guessing, or you have to seek the information from a third party. This seller includes all of the information, including a full high-res picture of the package, right on the description page! Again, this may seem like a silly hill to die on for some people, but you'd be shocked how many sellers don't provide this information upfront.I could go on and on about this product, it's flavor, it's health benefits, etc. but I think you get the picture. It's a little bit pricey compared to some other products, but you're getting what you pay for here, and for pumpkin seed protein powder, this is a fairly good value. I received my first package as a free review product, but let me tell you I'm in the bottom third as far as income is concerned, and I can budget this in with no problem. So it's economical too.Like: virtually tasteless, very high protein content for vegan protein, organic, my body loves itMeh: kinda grittyDon’t just mix this with water and expect a protein shake like other stuff. This is WAY more versatile (and that will work out about like a tasteless fiber drink). Got a bowl of soup? Put this in and it will taste great and not significantly change the texture. Pancakes? Yes. Oatmeal? Yes. Yogurt? Maybe, what else are you putting in? Mac & chz? Maybe, how much does the texture bother you? Salad topper? Yup. Basically it’s a great protein kick for food, not just to drink on its own. Next time you’re at a family gathering trying to control your macros on just sides, this is the answer. Got mine in a fit boxx so the value was excellent-I’ll definitely buy it again and then the value will be pretty good but not awesome. Enjoy!
